I have only owned two dresses that kept me up past my bedtime, my wedding gown, and this blue and white striped Easter dress, circa 1986. Sleep was no match for the buzzing fantasy of wearing each of them the following day.
I donned my wedding gown, (sweating), in the back of a party-tent rental trailer packed with my bridesmaids after first, wearing a skydiving jumpsuit, and then motocross gear, (hence the perspiration), but as soon as I slung it over my shoulders I felt more beautiful than ever.
Our wedding, November 4th, 2006.
Rewind a couple of decades to when I stared longingly at that ruffled collar romper from my twin bed POV while it hung on our closet door, (in its rightful spotlight), promising that it would make me feel as good as it looked.
The mid-eighties were the peak of my “Tomboy” era. I clung to the contrarian role in our family as tightly as my tiny hands could cling; I didn't dare let on to anyone, (most of all roommate, and girliest of girly-girls, my sister, Mary), that I actually wanted to wear… a dress.
AND the tights, too!
I loathed tights, (I still do), but I gave a nod to the dress that the white tights indeed completed the look, and I feel assured to this day that it was a justified choice in fashion over function.
'Lil T Easter Sunday circa 1984 -85?
I tossed in this photo because it is another classic Easter get-up when I adorned my favorite shoes and socks combo of all time, and because I think my Mom will get a kick out of it.:)
I have not quite decided what I will be wearing on Easter morning this year, but I get to be with my family, so definitely a smile, and definitely NO tights!
Happy Easter!
The song and video choice today is not our wedding song, but it reminds me of our wedding day because I watched the video before heading out on my final run as a single lady, Nickelback's Far Away.
