Friday’s are just the best. Who’s with me? Friday afternoons in elementary school were spent at my best friend Alexandra’s house, then in high school it was the fanfare of rallies and football games, and in college Friday was the night to dress up, go out, laugh and dance all night, and finally saunter home deep into the early hours of Saturday morning. This particular Friday has a contemporary celebratory flare to it because I am capping off a HUGE swim block, (I swam 38 out of the last 39 days), with a big, harry workout this morning and naturally a couple of runs, too.
I have a delicate confidence with swimming. I love it, but I can tell when the edges of my confidence are fraying from mental fatigue that it is time to tap out and take a break from total submersion. I know that some time out of the water over the weekend will be enough of a respite to have me clamoring to jump back into the deep end on Monday morning, which is why I am going into the hefty workout today with the mindset that it is a celebration rather than a sufferfest.
A terrific run following a terrible swim on Thursday.
Meanwhile, my run streak will hit the 100 day mark on Saturday, a seminal feat for sure, but my legs are still feeling sharp, so I plan to run right through Day 101,102...
The obligatory pre-Vineman gun show, 2010.
Speaking of worthy celebrations and “real-deal” #streaklife, my good friend and the greatest Samaritan I know, Sarah Gonzalez, (pictured above), is celebrating her birthday on this fabulous Friday. Before I reveal Sarah’s noble and awe-inspiring streak, I suggest you grab onto to something solid to steady yourselves. Okay, ready? Sarah worked EVERY SINGLE DAY from May 30th, 2020, until March 21st, 2021 as a Nurse Practitioner in New York City.
She worked five days a week at her practice, and then spent her weekends at a COVID-19 testing center, later turned COVID 19 vaccination center. Yep. She’s amazing. I am not only grateful Sarah is my friend, but grateful that she exists in our jacked up world and is truly making it a better place for New Yorkers, and beyond. Happy birthday, Sarah!
Well, I have a swim and run celebration to scurry off to, but for the song and video choice today I have a VERY special treat. My friend and remarkable writer, Katie, who I wrote about last Saturday, 4/3, watched the Daylight video from Maroon 5 that I included in that post, and enjoyed it so much that she made a video of her own. It’s incredible. Enjoy.:)
